Confidence

It should have been the perfect day. Instead…
The tears started welling up in my eyes. I had planned everything out perfectly. My hair was perfect. Nails done. Makeup flawless. Waist snatched.
It was my time to shine. The photographer was ready. The setting was beautiful. Perfect lighting. Natural greenery all around. Lovely weather.
But I kept having that feeling of disappointment and frustration.

What had I missed?

My coaching session.
That conversation I needed to have with myself.
Believe me, I had a ton of internal dialogue that day. I was trying to coordinate schedules, clothes, and appointments for five people on four hours of sleep with three mouthy kids, two exhausted adults, and one opportunity to capture an important milestone. Things weren’t quite running smoothly with the coordination of all that. My inner critic was loud.

In her effort to “just keep it real” and “tell it like it is”, she was unwittingly stealing my confidence.

It wasn’t until the photographer told me to imagine myself doing a one-on-one coaching session with a client that I realized where I’d gone wrong that day. I hadn’t coached, encouraged, praised, or cheered for myself. When I started doing it for my imaginary client, I did it for myself – and my entire energy shifted.

Confidence restored. Self-assurance intact. Day made.
When’s the last time you had the right kind of conversation with yourself?
